MUMBAI: Former radio jockey Noel Keymer has compiled a book, â€?Everything you wanted to know about Radio Jockeying but did not know whom to ask’, addressing issues concerning RJing as a career. The book has been published by Magna Publications and has hit most city stores this week.
The book primarily focuses on the qualities required to train as an RJ, the art of scripting, ideas to crack the RJing auditions, voice modulations, command on languages etc. Referring to the target audience, Keymer says, The book is basically meant for the small towns where there are no RJ training institutes and youngsters need to know about the profession. Also, RJ courses are often costly and before spending money for such courses, the youngsters can find out if they are qualified to be an RJ by reading and knowing about the profession….
The career opportunities that radio offers today are limitless as it is a booming industry with community radio also gaining importance,” adds Keymer, whose students work as RJs in the UK, Dubai, as well as in Guwahati, Mumbai and many other places.

Commenting on the growth of radio as an industry, Keymer says, Radio in India is going the western way, where there are 10 radio channels for every single TV channel. Radio is still in the infancy stage in India and about 300 new channels are expected to come up in the coming year itself. When it comes to RJs, the ratio of demand and supply is inversely proportional and there is a demand for more well- trained RJs in the upcoming radio stations….
The book, says Keymer, has been included as a part of curriculum for the Mumbai based Xavier Institute of Communications. Says Keymer, The book is not limited to only Radio Jockeying but also covers careers revolving around RJing with topics like presentation, public speaking, voice modulation while dubbing or anchoring, overcoming the fear of crowd etc. So, it is also a handbook for other career options like anchoring, compeering, news reading etc….
Noel Keymer is working towards initiating community radio in Mumbai colleges like Xaviers Institute, Mumbai as well as DY Patil and MET.
