MUMBAI: Thursday night saw grunge rock band Nirvana inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in its very first year of eligibility. Representing the band was its surviving members- David Grohl and Krist Novoselic, who were also joined by its late frontman Kurt Cobain’s mother, sister and widow Courtney Love.
Nirvana was inducted by R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe at the ceremony which was held at New York’s Barclay Centre. After being inducted, the ‘Come as You Are’ hitmakers performed sans their late frontman Cobain. However, the band did manage to bring on four impressive female acts to help belt out some of their popular tracks. Joining Grohl, Novoselic and Pat Smears was veteran rocker Joan Jett on ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, Lorde on ‘All Apologies’, St Vincent on ‘Lithium’ and Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) on ‘Aneurysm’.
The ceremony also saw other rock acts- Kiss, Hall and Oates, Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt and Cat Stevens inducted, alongside Nirvana.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame saw several other performances by various inducted acts including the E Street Band, Hall and Oates, Gabriel and Cat Stevens. However, as reported earlier, American rockers Kiss did not perform at the event due to a dispute over the inducted line-up.
