MUMBAI: Almost 20 years after Nirvana’s frontman Kurt Cobain was found dead in his Lake Washington home, Seattle police have released never before seen images from the singer’s suicide. According to reports, a police spokesperson revealed that multiple rolls of undeveloped film from the scene were found by a detective who reviewed Cobain’s case files recently.
The spokesperson- Renee Witt revealed that nothing “earth-shattering” was found in the images, and that police were reviewing the case so as to be ready for Cobain’s death anniversary next month. “There’s still a lot of interest in this case,” Witt said. “The detective went into the case files to refresh himself. The outcome of the case has not changed.”
One of the recently revealed images shows a closed box and strewn around it is a cigarette pack, some cash, sunglasses and a wallet, which possibly shows Cobain’s identification. Another image shows an open paraphernalia box that contains what appear to be needles and a spoon on the floor. Lying beside it is half a cigarette.
The singer/ guitarist who helped make grunge rock popular, was found dead on 8 April 1994. However, a coroner determined that the ‘Come as You Are’ singer had been dead for a few days before his body was discovered. An investigation into his death revealed that he had taken a high dose of heroine before shooting himself with a shotgun. Despite conspiracy theories of it being a murder, police still maintain it was a suicide.
Cobain, in his last years struggled with depression, illness and a heroin addiction. A few weeks prior to his death, he even checked into a rehabilitation facility. He was 27 at the time, and is to this day remembered as one of alternative music’s most iconic artistes.
