MUMBAI: The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) will present a music recital by renowned Spanish pianist Eduardo Fernández on 6 July. The show will be his maiden performance in India.
His performance will feature pieces of Brahms, Robert Schumann, Isaac Albéniz, Rachmaninov and Stravinsky. The first part of the recital will begin with symphonic etudes by Schumann. These etudes are 12 variations of the same topic, with the initial title ‘Florestan and Eusebius orchestral studies’. Fernández’s repertoire extends from baroque to contemporary including all the etudes by legendary pianists Rachmaninov and Chopin.
The second part of the recital will be a tribute to the performer’s country: ‘Almería’, by Albéniz. Apart from Albéniz, Rachmaninov and Stravinsky, two of Russia’s most important composers will lead the second part of the recital.
NCPA chairman K N Suntook said, “It is a pleasure to host Eduardo Fernandez’s maiden performance at the NCPA and bring to discerning Indian audiences his impeccable talent and mastery. He has not only performed at some of Spain’s most prestigious events, but has successfully travelled throughout Europe and South America.”
Fernández has been acclaimed by critics as the ‘most promising young Spanish pianist’ after being selected by the renowned international music magazine Scherzo to perform at its 20th anniversary concert in 2005. His first CD featuring the Suite Iberia by Albéniz, released in late 2010 to high critical acclaim. He has toured extensively performing at major Spanish concerts and across Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, Denmark, Estonia, Romania, Panama, China, Russia, Argentina and Chile. He plans to release his second recording later this year
