MUMBAI: Rashid Ali, who started doing vocals for AR Rahman with Parthale Paravasam in 2002 has not looked back since then.
Ali, shot to fame with the track ‘Kabhi Kabhi Aditi’ from the film ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Ali goes through his musical journey and remembering his decade long association with Rahman. “I have been working with AR for a while now but Kabhi Kabhi Aditi had bought me fame. I didn’t realize that ‘Kabhi Kabhi Aditi’ will be so huge. As the film came out Kabhi Kabhi Aditi did well and Kahin Toh followed the suit. It was great having this track and these tracks will be really close to my heart,” he says.
Recently, he has also rendered a track ‘Nazar Laaye’ in Rahman’s upcoming film ‘Raanjhanaa’. Ali who has sung a duet with Neeti Mohan adds, “I have known Neeti for a while now but we had never sung together before. In 2007, we were part of a tour but now we got an opportunity to sing and I think it is the start of our journey together. I also feel that our voice kind of matches together very nicely. I have rendered with Shreya Ghoshal but this duet seems more beautiful.”
Highlighting about the lyrics of the track penned by Irshad Kamil, Ali says, “Irshad Kamil has written in depth lyrics and from my point of view the lyrics are simple to be understood.”
He further adds, “One cannot simply translate the lyrics penned by him in Hindi and Urdu into other languages. The words are very neatly put.”
Ali’s album ‘Call me Rashid’ was also released by Rahman last year. For quiet sometime, he has been touring around the world but now he has finally positioned himself in Mumbai and hopes to carry on doing more music with composers he is in talks with.
