MUMBAI: Amara Muzik, the audio label startup launched by Naveen Bhandari, has acquired the audio-video catalogue of Micro Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) for an undisclosed amount. The catalogue consists of 160 songs acquired for a perpetual tenure.
Amara Muzik, that is targeting the Odisha and Bengal markets, claims that this is by far the biggest deal that has happened in the Ollywood Music industry. The deal includes music rights to films including Sapatha, Thookol, Mu Premi Mu Pagal, Balunga Toka, Kichi Khata Kichi Mitha, Gud Boy, Matric fall, Idiot, Rangeela Toka, Jaggu Autowallah, Loafer, Ashok Samrat, Khie Jane Bhala Lage re and Salam Cinema. The albums it has acquired include Khare Kalia, Nima Daru, Hey Baba Saburi Malik Tume, Talophotaka, I’m Mad for U, Daibee Krupa, Pancha Murta, Chandan Chhitra and Jay Jay Sai Ram.
The Chennai based music company has entered the market with direct content acquisition from producers. With the MBC catalogue acquisition, it now has a strong foothold in the Odia industry. Amara Muzik is backed by serial entrepreneur Naveen Bhandari, who has at least six startups under his fold. One of the startups which he founded in 2001 is Techzone- mobile vas and billing solution provider. Kishore Lulla’s production house Eros Films recently took a 100 per cent stake in Techzone.
