NEW DELHI: The third National Community Radio Sammelan to be held next month will primarily assess the financial status and difficulties faced by the stations to find solutions so that these can run successfully.
The Sammelan is being held from 15 to 17 February at Vigyan Bhavan, where for the first time awards will be given in five categories to the CRS.
One of the aims will be to provide opportunities to the station heads to interact with different government departments. These include the Ministries of Health, Women and Child Development, and Telecom, and also interact with organizations like the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity and Broadcast Engineering Consultants (India) Limited (BECIL).
In addition, the participants will interact with international agencies like UNESCO, UNICEF, Commonwealth of Learning, World Bank etc.
As reported earlier, three awards will be given in each category, comprising cash awards of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. A jury constituted by the Ministry will decide which stations deserve to be awarded.
The awards are for thematic content (relevant to community), community engagement showing involvement of the community in the programme planning and execution, promoting local culture (preservation and promotion) incorporating local talent and tradition, most creative/innovative programme content to encourage CRS to devise new kinds of programming to convey development concerns of the community, and sustainability model showing innovative methods to generate revenue for self-sustenance.
The Government is providing travel and stay to one representative of each CRS wanting to participate.
A compendium of all operational CRS is also being prepared to be released during the meet.
