National Award for Shankar Mahadevan, Prasoon Joshi

MUMBAI: The 55th National Awards was a mix affair with majority of awards going to the south Indian film industry. Bollywood too made its presence felt.

Lyricist Prasoon Joshi bagged the award as best lyricist award for the song ‘Maa’ from Taare Zameen Par. The same song also earned Shankar Mahadevan his second National Award as best playback singer after ‘Yenna Solla Pogirai’ from the popular Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain in 2000.

Shreya Ghoshal got best female playback singer for the song ‘Yeh Ishq Hai’ from Jab We Met. Also best audiography award was recieved by Kunal Sharma for the film 1971. In a non-feature film category Zubeen Garg bagged the award for best music director for the film Echoes of Silence made in English and Khasi.

Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par annexed the best family welfare award. While Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chak De! India was awarded the best film in the overall entertainment category. Music director Ousepachan bagged the best music director award for Malayalam film Ore Kadam directed by Shyamaprasad.
