NEW DELHI: The first episode of a special series based on the poems of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was screened today to mark his 150th birth anniversary in the country.
Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch graced the inaugural screening of the film in her Ministry.
The 13-part series of films has been directed by the eminent filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta.He told Radioandmusic.com that he had attempted to put the essence of Tagore’s thoughts in his poems in the series.
The National Implementation Committee for the commemoration of Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary (Ministry of Culture) got these films made by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
Doordarshan, which had earlier telecast the serial ‘Gora’ based on the second novel of the Nobel laureate, is now slated to telecast this series based on the poems on its National Network.
However, the series will be telecast after the National Implementation Committee previews all the 13 episodes, and then sends them to Doordarshan. At present, DD sources said only two episodes had been previewed.
‘Gora’, a 26-episode series, had been produced by renowned filmmaker, curator, distributor, exhibitor and producer Gargi Sen, and directed by Somnath Sen known for his work in cinema.
