MUMBAI: It’s not only the radio stations and the music channels that are hunting for good musicians, now it’s even NASA that has entered the music space.
NASA astronauts are traditionally awakened each morning by songs chosen by their friends and family.
But for the US space agency’s final space shuttle mission in next February, NASA is inviting members of the public to vote on wake-up songs from both:
A list of 40 previous wake-up songs that range from â€?Magic Carpet Ride’ by Steppenwolf to â€?Drops of Jupiter’ by Train as well as space-themed original songs submitted by songwriters.
“It’s going to be a difficult choice, because there have been so many great songs played over the years,” STS-133 commander Steve Lindsey is quoted in NASA’s contest announcement.
Voters can also submit an original song with a space theme…, NASA said. Two of those tunes, which must be submitted online by January 10, will later be voted on by the public.
Mark Kelly, who will command STS-134, said shuttle crew members enjoy the wakeup music.
“While we don’t have the best quality speaker in the space shuttle, it will be interesting to hear what the public comes up with,” said Kelly.
The original songs submitted to NASA by 4 pm CT on 10 January, 2011, will go to a panel of NASA officials, who will choose a list of finalists. The public will vote on those finalists, and the top two will wake up Kelly and his crew on 26 February, 2011 aboard the space shuttle Endeavour.
