MUMBAI: If you are just 23 and you get an opportunity to sing for a Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer, it is a big ticket for sure. But, even in that young age and assumingly short journey, there have been ups and downs. Sharvi Yadav, a household name with the show The Stage 2, India’s only international music competition, is all set to make her big playback debut in Hindi films with the much awaited Veere Di Wedding.
“I was called by Vishal Mishra, the composer, to the studio to do some dubbing. I didn’t know for what and who it was. Only later I realised, it was for Veere Di Wedding. I have sung a part of the title track Veere along with four other singers. I and Nikita Ahuja are the only two relatively new singers. But I am fortunate to be a part of this track and it was a fun experience to record for it.”
She praises the composer to the hilt, “I connected with him from the minute I met him. He is such a warm person to work with. He made it easier for me to record.”

Realising how far she has reached, Sharvi says, “I remember I used to sing at pubs in Delhi and get around 7000-8000 rupees. It may not be a big amount, but then it mattered a lot and would work as a pocket money. It also gave me good experience.”
Just like in Secret Superstar, Sharvi had casually put up her video on YouTube, which was noticed by music composer, Ehsaan Noorani of Shankar Ehsaan Loy, and that led to her entry in The Stage 2. “I had developed nodules on my vocal chords, making me stop singing for over a year. During this time my teachers Julie Hill and Vasundhara V, helped me a lot. Some of my relatives discouraged me from singing and insisted to go back to studying law, which I once wanted to do. However, my immediate family’s support was incredible. When Ehsaan sir called, it was a great feeling. Also, to know that video had got over 70,000 views was heartening since I was used to performing for 50-60 people at a pub.”
The 23-year-old girl has now moved to the city of dreams from the national capital, Delhi and she is finally settling, “Initially I used to get panic attacks and run back home at every given chance. Now finally I feel at home. My veeres have been great support every time I struggled emotionally. I have friends here from my hometown which is a great relief.”
With dreams in her eyes, Sharvi wants to do good music, “Music is greater than anything. I have been a part of the reality show and won it, done jingles for many brands, and now playback. I compose music, so maybe I will do independent music. We are blessed to be a part of this generation where we have so many opportunities and platform to showcase our talent.”
