My Mother wanted to see me on Television: Diljit Dosanjh

MUMBAI: Punjab’s sensational voice and the ruler of many hearts, Diljit Dosanjh is all set to make his small screen debut with Colors’ ‘Rising Star’.  His TV debut happens soon after he made it in news for having bagged the Best Debut Actor award at 62nd Jio Filmfare Awards for ‘Udta Punjab’. Ideally, one in Dosanjh’s shoes would want to focus on his Bollywood career, but this Punjabi superstar has entered the TV churn to fulfill his mother’s wish.

“I took up television because my family is connected to television, especially my mom. She wanted to see me on Television. She always said that ‘my son will be on TV’ and that is what brings me here,” stated the singer.

He further added, “Raj (Naik) – Colors CEO — told me that, ‘you can do two to three movies a year and only two to three per cent people will come to watch it’.  TV is plugged in every home and this will help me reach a wider audience.”

The ‘Do You Know’ hitmaker has been getting more movie offers than before post ‘Udta Punjab’, but music will continue to be the core of his world. “The world is made of music. Music is the most important thing in my life. There will be nothing left for me without music. People signing me for films or not is secondary, but I will continue singing.”

The singer is looked upon as an idol by many but he does not believe in preaching. Thus, without giving a missive to anyone he shared, “The youth is more educated than me. I am not addicted to any kind of drugs or alcohol. Though I have sung songs related to alcohol, but that’s my work. I have a younger brother and I always ask him to stay away from these things. In fact, I kept my younger brother in mind while shooting for ‘Udta Punjab’. My character in the film has a brother who is addicted to drugs. I pictured how I would react if a similar situation had to arise in real life and that is how I connected with the script.”

Furthermore, talking about ‘Rising Star’ Dosanjh said, “Having a live show is different from other reality shows. We know how difficult it is to be live, perform and judge. The production and edit of a live show is not easy. There is no pause, even for a second. We have only 21 per cent points so, technically India as a whole is voting. ”

The entire nation does not understand the nitty-gritty of music, but Dosanjh states that they will judge on the basis of entertainment value. “If the audience enjoys a song they will vote for it. If you sing amazingly, but people don’t enjoy, what is the use? Maza tabhi aata hai jab koi cheez dil se nikli hoti hai aur aapke dil tak pohochti hai. It is easy to touch someone’s heart if it is true, but if it is not, no matter how hard you try, it will not impress the audience,” ends Dosanjh.
