MUMBAI: After growing issues of safety of women in Chandigarh and Bhopal, MY FM had kick started a campaign ‘Women Without Fear’. The initiative was spearheaded by RJ Meenakshi and RJ Parul for their respective listeners. Through the campaign they hoped to attain 9430 audio signatures from women in the society who feel unsafe in their cities. The idea behind the campaign was to ensure that there is an effort by the society to make the women feel safe.
Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, MY FM national programming head Viplove Gupte said, “There was an intensive research that was carried on before we actually came up with the campaign. We asked listeners across various stations and we realised that woman from these two cities (Chandigarh and Bhopal) wanted something in these lines.”
He further added that the target of achieving 9430 audio signatures was within a span of nine days. “We were surprised by the response we received. In Bhopal, RJ Parul went out and collected the targeted audio within three days. There were many women groups in Bhopal who can forward to participate by providing their audio signature. Meanwhile, RJ Meenakshi collected the audio signature within four days.” RJ Meenakshi hosts the morning show whereas RJ Parul hosts the evening show, went out touring the cities and recording signatures for their campaign and have decided not to broadcast their shows from the studio.
Both the RJ’s were updating their Facebook and Youtube pages on a regular basis to keep the people involved with the developments and bring in more support.
Now, the station will hand-over the audio signatures to the governors in these two states to bring up the issue. “This in a way will help them to take a concrete step in these cities to make them safer for women,” added Gupte.
The campaign will be replicated in a phased manner in all the cities MY FM.
