MUMBAI: Independent band Music Unltd, recently launched two EPs, one in Hindi and the other in English. The English EP is called ‘And Then I Saw Her’, while the one in Hindi is titled ‘Armaanon ka Sapna’. ‘And Then I Saw Her’ comprises five tracks in total, and ‘Armaanon Ka Sapna’ features just three . Lyrics for tracks on ‘And then I Saw Her’ have been penned by band member Milind Chitnavis. Meanwhile, for the Hindi EP ‘Armaanon Ka Sapna’, the original English lyrics have been adapted into Hindi by writers- Tushar Bhatia (Kabhi-kabhi To) and Ibrahim Ashq (Armaanon Ka Sapna and Kaisi Sadak Hai Yeh).
“I always write the English lyrics of my songs. These have been adapted into Hindi By Ibrahim and Tushar,” said Chitnavis. Speaking about the tracks on the English EP he added, “The song ‘Just Slips Away’ was written years ago, and is a slow lilting track. It is about a person who knows he is dying of AIDS and is sung by Pratiksha K.” The track is currently available on various platforms, including iTunes.
‘Dreams’, another track from the English EP is the original version of ‘Armaanon Ka Sapna’, the title track of the Hindi EP. The music video for the song is being aired on the music channel- InSync, while the video for ‘And Then I Saw Her’ is being aired on 9XO. ‘When Oh When’ is based on possessiveness in a relationship, while the track ‘Sparkling in the Night’ is a fun song which talks about the city’s night life. When asked about his process of writing lyrics he said, “I write about what is inside a person’s heart and mind, and not what they portray to the public, which is often fake. Convention does not interest me.”

While Mumbai has a number of live venues, Chitnavis feels that a common problem indie musicians face is that the public is obsessed with Bollywood and that very few people can look beyond it. “It is unfortunate that a lot of music and college festivals opt for Bollywood artists as their headlining or concluding acts, and many live music venues prefer DJs, EDM and stand-up comedy, thus leaving very little space for good independent music,” he said signing off.
