NEW DELHI: Music will form an important part of the Fourth North East Youth Festival to be held at Majuli, Assam from 29 to 31 May.
The festival is being organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) on behalf of the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry.
Competition events will include folk songs and dances, instrumental guitar and rock band while non competition events will also have musical events.

With contingents from the eight North East States, NYKS volunteers, delegates from other states for the Food Festival and Yuva Kriti and cultural troupes and youth delegates from the neighboring districts, about 2100 youth delegates will participate in the three-day festival.
The festival will also include seminars on youth related issues. It will be inaugurated by Chemicals & Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar on 29 May. Others present will be Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, Assam Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Ajit Singh, along with prominent Members of Parliament from Assam.
The Governor of Assam will be the Chief Guest at the Closing on 31 May. AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and prominent Members of Parliament will be present.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will preside over both the Inaugural as well as the Closing Functions.
The North East Youth Festival is organised with the objective of fostering national integrity and to know each other better through exchange of culture, besides promoting the rich cultural heritage of various tribes and people of the North Eastern States. It is a grand celebration where the rich cultural traditions and colours of the North East are showcased.
The first North East Youth Festival was held at Kohima, Nagaland from 8 -10 October, 2009; the second was held at Shillong, Meghalaya from 7-9 April, 2011 and the third at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh from 7-9 November, 2012.
