Murphy Radio seeks stay order on ‘Barfi’ release

MUMBAI: A day prior to its release, the makers of Ranbir Kapoor’s much awaited film ‘Barfi!’ have been served with a legal notice by British radio manufacturers Murphy Radio for using their trademark ‘Murphy baby’ in the title track of the film.

Confirming the news and stating that they would respond to the notice Disney UTV managing director and producer of the film Siddharth Roy Kapur said, “It is true that we have received a notice from them (Murphy Radio). We are quite clear that we have done nothing wrong. There is no infringement on our part at all. The brand has been presented in a very positive light and we will be responding to the notice.”

Although Kapur admits that there is no infringement, the radio manufacturers claim that the makers of ‘Barfi!’ have used their trademark Murphy baby (Murphy Munna in the film’s song) without acquiring No-objection certificate from them. The manufacturers may seek a stay order on the release of the film.

Directed by Anurag Basu, the film features Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz. The music of the film is composed by Pritam Chakraborty and enlists 10 tracks including four remixes. Penned by multiple lyricist Neelesh Mishra, Swanand Kirkire and Ashish Pandit, the movie features songs rendered by Mohit Chauhan, Nikhil Paul George, Papon, Sunidhi Chauhan, Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Swanand Kirkire and Rekha Bhardwaj. The film is slated to release on 14 September.
