NEW DELHI: The versatile singer Mohammed Rafi, who died in July 1980, will be remembered on his 32nd death anniversary at a unique programme to be held in the national capital region tomorrow evening.
Organized jointly by SAKHA and Rafi Smriti, the event will include programme of music, videos, discussions and book releasesIt will have some rare footage from recordings of Rafi as well as some interviews. The book ‘Meri Awaaz suno’ by Vinod Viplav and its Urdu translation by Dr Syed Tanvir Hussain of Delhi University will be released.
Dr Kirat Sandhu, director of Springdale School, Amritsar, and chief guest Padmashree singer Shanti Hiranand who had met Rafi in Mumbai alongwith with her mentor Begum Akhtar will be present.
SAKHA-Rafu Smriti awards will be presented to members of the Mohammed Rafi Memorial Society, Amritsar: Capt Narinder Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Daljit Singh Arora, Dr Kirat Sandhu, Ahsan Qasim of Hapur. This is the oldest organization of fans of Rafi and was set up in 1981 in the city where Rafi was born.
The Audio CD “Rafi Tu Hai Chanda” sung by Tarlochan Singh with lyrics by Daljit Singh Arora, president and secretary respectively of Mohammed Rafi Society, Amritsar, will be released.
Various speakers including SAKHA founder Amarjit Singh Kohli, Rafi Smriti founder Vinod Viplav, renowned mediapersons Pankaj Vohra and Radioandmusic.com’s B B Nagpal, and well-known musicologist R P Sinha will speak on various facets of the eminence of Rafi, who had shown great versatility and had sung in several Indian and foreign languages
