MUMBAI: Known for singing songs like ‘Banjaara’ from ‘Ek Villain’ and ‘Baarish’ from ‘Yaariyan’, Mohammed Irfan has recently crooned the song ‘Gaye Jaa’ from the film ‘Brothers’.
The music of the film is composed by Ajay – Atul and the lyrics are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The music composer duo, liked his song, ‘Banjaara’ and called up the singer for recording the track.
“Working with composers with a stature of Ajay – Atul, is a learning experience and we had a great time recording the song,” said Irfan.

The brief given to him by the composers was that his vocals should resonate the feelings of a mother who is asking her child to not give up despite difficulties. Recording this track took a little while. “The composers and director Karan Malhotra were very clear that they need proper emotions for the song. Being a guy, it was a little difficult to project those emotions, but nonetheless we got it and I am very happy that the song has come out in my voice,” he said.
The 31 year old has also recorded a track in Kannada with ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ composer Ismail Darbar for a film based on the life of Kabir.
Despite ‘Banjaara’ being one of the most successful songs of 2014, Irfan bagged a very few nominations for the track. When asked if not getting nominated bothered him as an artist bothered him, he retorted, “I do not sing songs for getting nominated and neither does it bother me. People liking my songs and singing along with me during my gigs, is more than an award for me.”
When queried about his upcoming projects, Irfan remained tightlipped, only revealing that another song sung by him will be released within a fortnight. Additionally, Irfan also has a few projects lined up, which will release by the end of the year.
