MUMBAI: The Fringe At The Quarter is set to showcase music that pushes existing boundaries and genre definitions through a brand new gig series dedicated to experimental music. It is an exploration of artists who infuse traditional as well as non-traditional ways to create music that is a hybrid of contrasting styles.
The first edition of this night will be launched on 10 May 2018, featuring one of the most impressive producer-drummer duos from Bangalore, Nikhil Narendra and Shreyas Dipali, and the young Bombay based producer Palash Kothari aka. Sparkle and Fade (live). Befitting the night’s ethos, Nikhil Narendra (synths, samples) and Shreyas Dipali (drums) embrace the different musical worlds that surround them to create modern experimental music. The core of their brand of live electronica lies in the duo’s ability to improvise and craft an organic, raw ‘live-in-the-room’ sound, adopting a composite approach to music making. Since their debut in 2013, Nikhil and Shreyas have performed at the country’s prominent musical spaces, including a slot at the renowned Magnetic Fields Festival in 2016. Sparkle & Fade’s atmospheric, ambient music has an air of enigma to it. With layers of samples, celestial reference points and delicate production, Sparkle & Fade live is a real delight.
Starting this May, The Fringe At The Quarter will be held at Mumbai’s latest cultural and entertainment enclave, The Quarter. Through this night, we aim to break the artificial barrier between a musician and the audience with The Quarter’s intimate environment. Taking place once every two months, The Fringe At The Quarter will stage an inclusive music listening experience for the audience.
