MUMBAI:
Radio Misty has joined hands with the Bangla Gaan Utsav committee for the festival of Bengali songs in December 2008, in a bid to provide a platform for upcoming singers.
The four-day festival will start from 12 December. This is the fourth year of this festival. Well-known singers from Kolkata and elsewhere in Bengal will also be performing on each day of the festival in an effort to rekindle a liking for all types of Bengali songs, from Rabindrasangeet to Adhunik (modern) songs, says the radio station.
The utsav will be inaugurated on 12 December at Sister Nivedita Auditorium in Siliguri. Applications have been invited aspiring and established singers across the six north Bengal districts. Exponents of Rabindrasangeet, Nazrulgeeti, Dwijendrageeti, Atul Prasad, Rajanikanta, Sukantageeti, Lokgeeti, Puratani and Adhunik songs will perform in this utsav.
Radio Misty will erect a live studio at the venue from where shows will be hosted by celebrity radio jocks.
Well known singers who have taken part in the Bangla Gaan Utsav in the last three years include Dhiren Basu, Srabani Sen, Sanat Sinha, Indrani Sen, Indranil Sen, Mrinmoy Bhattacharya, Nachiketa, Srikanto Acharya, Subhamita, Radha Bandopadhya and Lopamudra.
