Sadhna Sargam, popular playback singer and member of the Jury of Uninor Mirchi Music Awards, tells Pavan R Chawla that she has loved being associated with the awards ever since they began three years ago.
You have been on the jury of Mirchi Music Awards for three years in a row, right from its inception. Why did you choose to get associated with the Mirchi Music Awards?
Mirchi music Awards are unique as they are exclusively for music and they are very special as music is my life and I have been in the industry for a very long time. The process is very clear as its very fair, and so I love being associated with it.

Would you like to tell me something about the process ?
We vote for the nominations and there is a secret ballot for every member, so there is no pressure or any influence on anyone at all.
Besides, a lot of big names from the music industry, like Javed Akhtar sahab as well as directors and singers like Lalit Pandit ji, Vishal Bhardwaj ji, Alka ji, Ramesh Sippy ji, Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra ji are there, and when these people vote, they think and make the correct selection.
Apart form the jury, what do you like about the Uninor Mirchi Music Awards?
They are on a very large scale, and I am very happy as music is a major part of our films. These awards have not only recognized the contribution of music, but have showcased it very well too. Indeed, it is a matter of respect for all of us from the music industry that Mirchi Music Awards is doing this, and Radio Mirchi is doing a very good job.
What would you like to say about the fact that a Radio Network like Radio Mirchi has created and invested in the MMA?
FM radio is the medium through which our music reaches the public, so Radio has always been very important for me. The fact that Radio Mirchi is behind MMA is even more satisfying, because I like to listen to Radio Mirchi. I like the way they present music. It offers a good balance of new songs and old classics as people like a mix of both. So the channel has presented the entire music world very beautifully to listeners all over India.
Do you think that the categories in MMA are comprehensive enough? Should there have been any more categories included?
All the categories are well thought out and covered. This year, we have added Sufi too, as there has been a lot of Sufi influence on Bollywood music.
