MUMBAI: Radio Mirchi’s Ahmedabad station will regain its transmission on Wednesday after four days of unclear transmission. The station has been facing transmission issues since 4 October after the transmitter was struck by lightning.
Explaining the transmission issue, Ahmedabad station director and Gujarat station head Vinay Prashant says, Radio Mirchi Ahmedabad’s main transmitter was hit by lightning in the wee hours of 4 October and our station was facing disturbance in transmission since the last four days. To cope with the emergency, we continued transmission through our backup low power transmitter through which we could cover only 60-70 per cent of Ahmedabad. With the low power transmitter, the clarity in the suburbs of the city also got affected and the frequency could not be heard in some parts….
Launched seven years ago, Radio Mirchi Ahmedabad broadcasts for 24 hours every day.
The transmission will recover today by the second half as our technical team from Delhi is working on it and we will have full transmission in all parts of the city. We have been receiving thousands of calls from listeners in the past few days and have put an official advertisement in the local papers…. Radio Mirchi has also published advertisements in The Times of India and Sandesh to inform the listeners about the lack of clarity.
Prashant mentions that the station has been enjoying listenership at all its stations in the state according the IRS data. According to the last data, Ahmedabad station grabbed 80 per cent listenership, 62 per cent in Baroda, 65 per cent in Surat and 40 per cent in Rajkot….
The advertising pie in the Gujarat region, states Prashant, comprises 60 per cent of national clients and 40 per cent of local retailers. He adds, the real estate sector has seen a revival and there are many advertisers from this profile investing in radio.
The Ahmedabad station has been active in carrying out Corporate Social responsibility in the areas of Blood donations, AIDs awareness etc.
