Micromax claims to have sold more than 1 million Canvas smartphones

MUMBAI: Indian handset maker Micromax has reportedly announced that it has sold over a million units of its Canvas range of smart phones. Micromax’s Canvas range of smartphones has four smartphones under this series which includes A100, A110, A116 and A72.

Micromax CMO Shubhodip Pal said, “The Canvas series has proved to be a trendsetter in Indian smartphone segment. The demand for these devices has been on an upward curve from the time of their launch. These are our flagship models and the overwhelming consumer response has made us confident that we are headed towards the right direction.”

Micromax is the 12th largest handset manufacturer in the World, according to Global Handset Vendor Market share report from Strategy Analytics.

The company saw a boost in its growth after the launch of A116 Canvas HD smartphone. The company further states that the sales were dominated by the metros and smaller towns in the country.

“When we launched the Canvas HD, for the first time our online sales partners had witnessed a digital queue in cyberspace to such an extent for any product, to the traditional cue one normally sees. It was great to witness consumers wait until 12:00am for their chance to book the Canvas HD on Valentine’s Day selling 9000 units in less than 24 hours,” Pal added. It had launched the first phone in the Canvas series,  A100, in August 2010.
