MUMBAI: When he first went to a cinema house to watch the movie ‘Don’ starring Amitabh Bacchan, he told his father, “One day I shall work with Amitabh Bachchan.” The words came true when Manoj Yadav wrote lyrics for a couple of songs for the movie ‘Piku’, the Bollywood film which features Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan. For Yadav it is like a dream come true and he calls it an overwhelming experience. The music for both tracks is composed by Anupam Roy.
“I had worked with Shoojit Sircar for an advertisement and since then we have shared a good rapport. So one fine day he called me up to write a song. Anupam Roy composed the number and also sang the song beautifully. The only brief I was given for ‘Bezubaan’ was that the song should talk about life in general. Life is too unpredictable, so I wrote the lyrics accordingly. I made sure the song does not have extremely sad lyrics,” said Yadav.
The second song is the film’s title track and is based on the protagonist, who is taking care of her 90 year old father. She is an independent woman and knows what is right and wrong for her. “Piku is someone who is strong and has her own ideologies in life which makes her adorable and unique. She is outgoing, but keeps her family tradition intact,” Yadav explained. The tunes for both songs were already in place and Yadav had to pen lyrics according to the meter of the track. According to him, he likes writing songs either ways, i.e. after and before the tune is composed.

Apart from his Bollywood projects, Yadav is also writing for the band ARKA, which comprises singer Karthik. The lyricist is also writing a couple of songs for an album with Mili Nair. For him it is very essential to work on independent projects as this keep his creativity alive.
Yadav’s inspiration comes from everyone present in his life. “For me I can get inspired from anyone who makes me think. It could be anyone. For me what matters is the thought rather than a person,” he elucidates.
The film ‘Piku’ will release on 8 May, 2015.
