MUMBAI: Actress- model Nisha Rawal, best known for her role in Life OK’s Main ‘Lakshmi Tere Aangan Ki’, is exploring a new creative side. The actress has now turned singer, with the release of a cover mash-up of ‘Tu Bin Bataayein’ from ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Yellow’ by Cold Play, and ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon.
Interestingly, the actress did not have plans to turn into a singer until last year, but in an attempt to explore more she stumbled upon the opportunity. In fact, Rawal gives the entire credit of turning into a singer to music composer Manmeet Singh of Meet Bros.

“I never thought of myself as anything more than a bathroom singer. But joining singing classes changed the picture for me. In fact, it was Manmeet who pushed me to take it up in the first place. He always said that I had a lovely voice and that I should try singing. He even sent his guruji to my place, and I began to like the learning process. The next idea that came to me was of cutting a cover, and he completely supported it,” stated Rawal.
Singh was the one who selected the songs for Rawal, and even asked his team to record the cover song with her. With an expert team on her side and some riyaaz, Rawal who is just four months old in the singing field, managed to release her first cover. “I had a month to work on the songs, and I worked really hard. I had to re-dub certain portions of the song, but we managed to get the recording in place in a day,” she said.
However, recording for her first cover did make Rawal a little nervous. “Starting with music is like having a new relationship for me. Where you have butterflies in your stomach and your heart starts beating fast. I do not have any camera fears, but I was nervous when I entered the recording studio for the first time. But, I am enjoying it completely,” she confessed.
Rawal has already started getting event offers, but has not accepted any as yet. She believes that she is still not ready to go all out. “I feel music is an extremely respectful thing and various musicians have taken years to master it. I am an amateur in comparison. I just want to take baby steps so, that I do not end up in a studio as bathroom singer,” Rawal added.
In spite of being a fresher in the music field, Rawal’s cover version sound very professional. When asked if auto tuners played a part in her recordings she said, “While recording the cover, I learnt that there are certain techniques to get your melodies and notes in place. But, I did not opt to use those. However, I do not know if they have used tuners or not because technical is not my department.” She explained that she wants her journey to be as raw and natural as can be. “I want my fans to know my flaws,” she added.
Rawal has already begun work on her next cover, which will be released in a couple of months. However, Bollywood playback singing is not on her list yet. She believes that she has a lot to learn to get there yet.
