MUMBAI: February, the month where winter entices for just a little longer, became the month of the Mahindra Blues Festival four years ago. This year will not be any different. Continuing the ritual of having the festival in the second weekend of February, Mehboob Studios in Bandra will host it on 15 and 16 February.
Back with the blues, the festival’s line-up for 2014 is again, star spangled. It will feature the Grammy Award-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band with special guest Doyle Bramhall II, four time Grammy Award-winner and bluesman Jimmie Vaughan, Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials, Zac Harmon and India’s pioneering Blues bands, Shillong based Soulmate and Blackstratblues who hail from Mumbai.
Tickets are to go on sale in January 2014 and will cost festival goers Rs.2000 daily and 3000 for a season pass. The good news for students is that they will have to pay only Rs. 800 per day, all standing. There will also be the option of Premium Enclosure which cost Rs. 11,000, inclusive of seating and beverages.
The festival has Laqshya Media Group, Rolling Stone, Jonny Walker and Economic Times as their sponsors, and is organised by Orange Juice Entertainment.
In 2013, the festival was headlined by Robert Randolh and the Family Band, Jimmie Vaughn and Tilt a Whirl band featuring Lou Ann Barton and joined by Popa Chubby, Walter trout and The Radicals, Dana Fuchs Band, Big Bang Blues and our very own Soulmate. The festival has, in the past, seen performances by blues icons like Buddy Guy, the Matt Schofield Trio, john lee Hooker and the Taj Mahal Trio.
