MUMBAI: While most teenagers are anxiously awaiting the release of the next Hunger Games installation, 17 year old singer/ songwriter Lorde has been assigned the task of curating the soundtrack for the upcoming film. The ‘Royals’ hitmaker will not only play music supervisor, but also record the lead single for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1′.
The two time Grammy winner took to her Twitter account to make the announcement. She tweeted, “i am so pleased and proud to have been announced the sole curator of the soundtrack for MOCKINGJAY – PART 1”. In another tweet she said, “building this thing piece by piece has been amazing. i can’t wait to share the other artists’ contributions with you.”
Lorde also revealed that she has written the first single along with Joel Little, a New Zealand songwriter and music producer. She also stated that curating the soundtrack for this film would be a challenge, but she “jumped” at the opportunity, adding that the soundtrack would definitely surprise people.
Francis Lawrence, who will be directing the film, in a statement said, “I sat down with Lorde on the set of Mockingjay this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we … were trying to accomplish with the film. Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes not only had enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack.”
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1’ is set to release on 21 November, while the final instalment of the movie franchise will be out next year.
