MUMBAI: The independent music scene seems to be making a comeback and so are the singers who ruled the space back then. Euphoria made its presence felt in 2016 with ‘Halla Bol’ and now, it’s the turn of Vikas Bhalla.
Vikas, who became a national sensation two decades ago with his single ‘Dhuan’, recently made his comeback in the independent space with ‘Dhuan Unplugged’.
‘Dhuan Unplugged’ is an acoustic version of his superhit song ‘Dhuan’. The track back then featured Vikas alongside actor-model Aditi Gowitrikar. However, this time, the singer-actor-producer has chosen the beautiful locales of Toronto, Canada.

On recreating his own song the ‘Po Po’ singer stated, “I have been looking at working around singles for a while, but now is the right time. Independent music is making a comeback. So, I thought why not recreate my song? ‘Dhuan’ has the mood and feel that connects even today.”
The track may still be the same, but Vikas feels it sounds a lot better than the way he sang it 20 years ago. “The current rendition of ‘Dhuan’ sounds very different from the earlier because it has those many years of riyaaz. I have always made it a point to give at least an hour of my time to riyaaz every day. Practising music is like refilling petrol in your vehicle. If you do not do that it wouldn’t run,” explained Vikas who has plans of releasing one single every three to four months.
However, music is not something that will take all his time. The man believes in multi-tasking as that keeps him away from boredom. “I am also into production and construction. In fact, I recently opened a school in Bandra. My wife runs it. So, I am usually doing a lot of things.”
Singing still is close to this multi-talented star’s heart as he wishes to sing more. But, he is not too sure about playback singing. “I have sung a few songs for Bollywood films in the past and I wish to do more music for it. But, unfortunately, I do not compose music. Now, that limits my options because most composers sing their songs these days,” added the ‘Paagal Si Saari Leheren’ singer who does not plan to try his hands at composition. He feels it’s good that people can do both, but he can just sing on others compositions.
