MUMBAI: Redd Alluri is the latest addition to NH7 Weekender’s Hyderabad lineup, but how much do we really know about this Indian-born, London-based artist?
Radioandmusic.com contacted Alluri to know more about his musical journey and his first gig in India.
Alluri grew up in India and completed his studies in Europe. His music has been influenced by both eastern and western sensibilities and he has used this as the inspiration behind his debut album ‘Man of Truth’. The album released last year via his own label to a strong critical reception, earning accolades from top music experts.

Currently, he is working on new music with acclaimed music producer, Tommaso Colliva. With his new album, Alluri will be returning to his roots, writing new music in his native Telugu. “I felt guilty for thinking, writing and making music with English lyrics. Moreover, my family finds it hard to connect to my music. I had been carrying that burden for a long time. This is why I decided on creating a Telugu album to connect with my people,” confessed the singer who makes it a point to visit India at least once a year to stay connected to his roots.
The musician’s current work is not getting him any returns, but he feels fortunate to have supportive parents. “I am in the music business and I am doing it my way. I am not doing commercial music and that is a big risk.”
The artiste is not in favour of making commercial music. Especially the ones that don’t talk about real life issues. “More commercial the music is, the lesser its connect is,” states the vocalist.
The independent singer will be performing at NH7 weekender on 6 November 2016 with his band. “We are a four piece band, Phil Martini on drums, Gavin Jay on bass guitar and Petra Breiner on Keyboards. This is our first NH7 gig. I had tried last year but, couldn’t get through. This year everything just fell into place.”
Alluri and his band will not just be performing at NH7 but, he will also be performing in Bengaluru, Delhi, Pune and Mumbai during his trip to India.
