MUMBAI: After a successful year of promoting independent artistes through their alternative discovery platform ‘Live from Console’, Sony Music’s Independent label Day 1 is all set to take the alternative music scene to its next level.
Organized in association with Orangejuice Entertainment, the label will launch Live from Console in Calcutta and Goa by October and December respectively. The format of the event will feature an hour long music documentary on singers and songwriters, followed by the performances of two independent bands which will be based on a particular genre.
Speaking about the new initiative, Sony Music’s Independent label Day 1 head Jayesh Veralkar said, “For us ‘Live from Console’ is the first priority, it was our vision which has been paid off. People have supported and loved the Console as a result of which we are coming up with Goa and Calcutta edition. With the editions our focus is to build this territory as successful as it has been in Mumbai. We are also planning to roll out an expansion plan which is still in nascent stage.”
Console which has recently collaborated with international music channel 9XO to showcase upcoming talent on a national television channel will complete its first year in the industry on 21 July. Celebrating its first anniversary, Live from Console is all set to host a musical treat with a line-up of alternative rock artistes Ayush Shrestha (Singer/Songwriter), The Family Cheese (Alternative Funk/Rock) and Blek (Alternative / Grunge / Dance). The event will also feature a documentary of Deep Purple Concert on 21 July at Mehboob studio in Mumbai.
Ecstatic on the completion of its first year, Veralkar expressed, “It’s absolutely amazing, as promoting independent artiste was our vision and it paid off as people loved it. Taking up this initiative logistically was very challenging and we are proud that we decided to stick to the project and later various brand and artiste came on board which helped us to scale up the property in much bigger scale. We are happy to take the initiative to its second year in Calcutta and Goa.”
Lending a platform for independent artistes, Console has become a one stop destination for upcoming artistes to showcase their talent. Commenting on the upcoming talent Veralkar stated, “The upcoming artistes have great talent but only one factor was that they needed a platform where their music had to be appreciated in much more focus manner. After their performance Console and the promotional tours, people are really impressed and many artistes have even received an opportunity to perform in various gigs and events.
Live from Console has featured several documentaries of renowned artiste like Kings of Leon, The Miles Davis story, Paul Simon amongst other. The label is quite grateful for the support it received from independent film makers and music label EMI. “We have great working relationship with EMI and we are fortunate enough that they are supporting us as they love our concept. They help us with the documentaries also and we have showcased their numerous content apart Sony music repertoire. We also write to independent film maker for the documentaries,” he added.
