Last minute ‘Lafz’ for Sudhir Mishra’s Inkaar was a mind blowing experience: Shahid Mallya

MUMBAI: Critically acclaimed director Sudhir Mishra’s Inkaar  was released on 18 January. But it is very unlikely heard story that just fifteen days back Mishra and Shamir Tandon, guest music director  started off the production for the four minutes song ‘Lafz’. The original version of this last minute song is in English and it is penned by Mishra himself. Meanwhile, Sameer penned the hindi version.

An acoustic song, it was first recorded in English by Monica Dongre. Shaan has created a lounge version of it.

The Hindi version in the film is sung by Papon and Shahid Mallya. Interestingly, the word lafz occurs over 24 times in the song. Mishra said, `Shamir has captured the idea that I had about the film.`

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Tandon said, “I was working with him for another film called ‘Kirchia’ which is a festival film and over a cup of coffee we felt that we could do something interesting for Inkaar which will encapsulate the idea of the film in a song. Many a times what happens is that we can communicate the story of the film and the song can be the visiting card for the film and can give you a prelude of the film before the release.”

He added, “I felt inspired by the beautiful English poetry penned by Sudhir Mishra and I composed music that moment and he enjoyed the tune I was singing. Next to me was Sameerji who was motivated to pen down in Hindi.  He rendered and recreated the song with some beautiful lyrics.”

Tandon added that the song just developed in a light note that’s the way it came into existence.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com singer Shahid Mallya said, “It’s was a mind blowing experience recording the song in the last minute. I believe in versatility. I had tried the song on high note and I felt that this song is not straining me much and felt it is good. Everyone in studio had enjoyed when I sang it.”

Inkaar stars Arjun Rampal and Chitrangada Singh in the lead roles. The film deals with sexual harassment in corporate set-up.
