MUMBAI: Singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert was the big winner at the 48th edition of Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, while Luke Bryan bagged the entertainer of the year.
Bryan snagged the spotlight for beating out Taylor Swift, Lambert, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean. Bryan said, “Thank you so much fans for doing this to me.” Bryan is the first male winner of the award since 2007.
“What I always wanted to be is just a country singer who got to ride on a tour bus and perform every night. … This is the defining moment of my life, it means the world to me and I’ll never take it for granted,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lambert’s collaboration with husband Blake Shelton for ‘Over You’ got her recognition. The song is about the death of Shelton’s brother in a car wreck and had won song of the year at the Country Music Association Awards last November as well. Lambert also won her fourth straight female vocalist of the year. “As a songwriter, having your songs and your lyrics be recognized by your peers is pretty much as good as it gets,” Lambert said.
23- year-old Swift lost out on all the five categories she was nominated in. Swift and Keith Urban accompanied Tim McGraw on stage for ‘Highway Don’t Care’, which Urban finished off with his guitar solo.
Stevie Wonder made his first appearance on a country music awards show, joining Hunter Hayes for a performance. Hayes kicked off their set with his song ‘I Want Crazy’, and then was joined by Wonder for ‘Sir Duke’.
Newcomer duo Florida Georgia Line, formed by Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, picked up the fan-voted award for New Artist of the Year and performed their hit single ‘Cruise’ on the show.
