MUMBAI: Fusion rock band Lagori, who recently launched its own signature beer – The Lagori Amber Wit Beer, will release a collaborative track with Girish Pradhan of Girish and the Chronicles on 12 June.
The band’s electric guitarist Geeth Vaz reluctantly revealed the release date of the track, but remained mum about the track’s title. “We have been working on the track for a while now, and it will finally release on 12 June,” said Vaz. He further added, “The track will not be an original composition, but will in fact be a cover track and an interesting rendition of a really good song.”
The track is said to be a Hindi-English cover of British trance group Above & Beyond’s 2014 single ‘We Are All We Need’. While the English parts will be sung by Pradhan, the Hindi parts will be sung by Lagori’s lead vocalist Tejas Shankar. The original track ‘We Are All We Need’ features vocals by British singer-songwriter Zoë Johnston.

Vaz also revealed that Lagori is currently hard at work in the studio on new material, which is why the band has not been performing many gigs. “We have written about 14 tracks, and recorded close to 10 songs,” he stated, adding that the band will soon release two singles, one of which is called ‘Udaan’, which the band will record soon. When asked on the sound of ‘Udaan’, Vaz said that those who have heard the track have picked out parts that, in their opinion, sound like the music of British rock band Porcupine Tree, and some have also noted metal influences.
Vaz also said that the band is currently trying to find the right balance between coming up with sing-a-long tracks which involve a lot of audience participation, and songs that do not require much participation.
Speaking on the sound of Lagori and its musical influences he said, “The band, as a whole, is constantly trying to evolve. However, the core sound associated with Lagori does not change.” Vaz said that he himself is a rock fan, while the band’s drummer Vinyl Kumar prefers metal. Vaz further added that bassist Shalini Mohan likes funk, while acoustic guitarist- Edward Rasquinha appreciates country and vocalist Shankar, loves Hindustani classical music.
When asked what the band has planned for their upcoming tracks, Vaz said that they will compile the songs and release them in the form of an album. However, the said sophomore Lagori album will only be released in 2016. He added, “The band is currently contemplating whether to release the album independently or under a label.” Lagori’s self-titled debut album was released by Times Music in August 2013.
