MUMBAI: Top ranking chartbusters of International pop stars Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce and Backstreet Boys have been placed in to internet blacklist by China’s culture minister.
The country’s culture minister has deemed 100 tracks by various artistes and has notified websites that the selling and streaming of the song will be illegal from 15 September.
The list includes six songs ‘The Edge of Glory’, ‘Hair’, ‘Marry the Night’, ‘Americano’, ‘Judas’ and ‘Bloody Mary’ from Lady Gaga’s latest album, Katy Perry latest single ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)’ and Beyonce’s ‘Run the World (Girls). The ban has been imposed for the lyrical content, which describes drinking alcohol, running naked and a â€?m?©nage a trios.’ Other axed songs includes Backstreet Boys’ ‘I Want it That Way’, Britney Spears’s ‘Burning Up’ and songs from Taiwan and Honk Kong artistes.
Culture’s website ministry said, The 100 Internet songs which are listed in the attached notice didn’t abide by content censorship or record registration according to the Internet Culture Management Temporary Provisions….
Previously, China culture minister has banned artistes like Eminem, Christina Aguilera and Kylie Minogue. Even the concerts of Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones have had to exclude certain numbers the ministry does not deem suitable for the Chinese public.
