MUMBAI: ‘Lekar Hum Deewana Dil’, a popular song sung by Kishore Kumar some decades earlier, is the title of a new film which will feature the music of one of the greatest names in the world of music, AR Rahman. Recently, the track ‘Khalifa’ from the film was released. Vocals for the same have been rendered by the Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman and the lyrics have been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
Speaking to Radioandmusic.com about the brief for the song, Bhattacharya said, “The word ‘Khalifa’ had been on and off in my mind for a long time now, and Rahman Sir had already given me the tune. It was actually made on the flight, while I was going to Chennai with the producers. ‘Khalifa’ being the first and main song of the film had to be something very catchy. Khalifa, it means being a leader, it was a perfect thought which fell in place.”
Bhattarcharya is better known for writing peppy numbers, but he thinks otherwise. “Just because I wrote numbers like ‘Chikni Chameli’ and ‘DK Bose’ does not mean I am only good at writing peppy numbers. I have written songs for films like ‘Lootera’, ‘2 States’, which means I am versatile and people have loved my songs. I love writing all kinds of songs,” he added.
