MUMBAI: Three stars align on DIRTYBIRD’s latest: Kevin Knapp, Mat.Joe, and Maximono. Together, they’ve crafted a low-end heater in ‘Drummer Loco.’
‘Drummer Loco’ is a frenetic composition fitting of its title. Its percussion-forward, with tribal-tinged rhythms leading the charge. Around this foundation, the collaborators add a large dose of funk to the mix through the track’s grooving bassline, and licks of vocals by Knapp.
The Berlin-based Mat.Joe, Kevin Knapp, and Maximono are all DIRTYBIRD veterans, having become label favourites through the years. Mat.Joe and Kevin Knapp have been keeping busy in the studio as the year has gone on, with both clocking in releases on Toolroom and other powerhouse imprints. Knapp’s collaboration with Hannah Wants, ‘Call Me,’ additionally received remix treatment by Carl Cox this year. ‘Drummer Loco’ marks Maximono’s fourth release of the year, with the Hanover native debuting on Insomniac’s In / Rotation and Box of Cats in March.
