MUMBAI: Well known Sufi and Bollywood playback singer Kavita Seth organises ‘Anandotsav’- a Sufi music festival every year, to celebrate the birth anniversary of her late husband, K K Seth who passed away in December 2011. This year the festival marks the fifth edition. “Because this is the fifth year of the Sufi festival, it will be spread over two days,”said Kavita.
Kavita Seth, who has sung chartbuster songs like ‘Iktara’ (Wake Up Sid), ‘Mora Piya’ (Raajneeti), ‘Mujhe Mat Roko’ (Gangster) and ‘Tumhi Ho Bandhu’ (Cocktail), has done wonders outside the music scene of Bollywood too.
“My husband K K Seth expired in December 2011. He supported me a lot musically. I always dreamt of being a singer but, I wasn’t too sure if I would becoming one. For, I knew that the music industry is uncertain. But, it was my husband who had faith in me. He was my support system, he was my army,” stated ‘Tum Hi Ho Bandhu’ singer.

She further went on to add, “I found strength to get back to life after six months of his demise. And they were his words that brought me back from all the darkness. He always said that life never stops.”
The singer further went on to share her thoughts on creating a music festival in memory of her late husband.”Anandotsav is a celebration of life and a musical tribute to him. Bringing a Sufi event in the city too had always been on my mind, but I found the right reason becuase of my husband,” averred the ‘Jeete Hai Chal’ singer.
The first day of the festival (10 June ) will feature Sufi mushaira. There will be Urdu poets to recite enchanting Sufi poetry.
The second day of the festival (11 June) will embrace a two-hour-long melodious evening. Kavita will perform with her youngest son Kanishk and her performance will include some of her non-film music.
Some of the Urdu poets such as Nusrat Mehdi, Syed Zia Alvi, Sufi Waliullah Baqai, and Hasan Kamal will be part of the Anandotsav, among others.
‘Anandotsav’ will take place on 10 and 11 June at the Rangsharda auditorium in Bandra, Mumbai.
