NEW DELHI: A spellbinding violin recital by Vidushi Kala Ramnath from Mumbai, one of India’s finest Violinists, was the highlight of the eighth day of the ongoing SaMaPa Aalap Festival (SAF) 2014.The concert today was at Government College for Women, Parade, in Jammu. The Festival is being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Jammu & Kashmir Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu.
Vidushi Kala Ramnath enthralled music listeners when she presented the Raga Ahir Bhairav with Vilambit Jhaptaal, Madhyala Teentaal and Drutlaya Teentaal, demonstrating various laykari patterns. The purity of the essence of the Raga was of high caliber in her recital. She was accompanied by Pt. Mithilesh Jhan on Tabla who provided excellent support. The Principal of GCW Parade Dr. Hemla Aggrawal welcomed the artists and guests and presented mementoes to them.
In another session at the Jammu Sanskriti School, the concert featured a Sarod recital by Pt. Joydeep Ghosh, a renowned musician of the country from Kolkata accompanied by Pt. Mithilesh Jha. The programme started with the lighting of lamp followed by the welcome song. The programme was compered by Ms Nidhi Kohli.

Students and teachers from various reputed schools like Jodhamal Public School, Baniyan International School, Kendriya Vidyalaya and BSF attended the programme.
Earlier Abhay Sopori spoke to the audience and urged the young children to take the responsibility of the culture forward. He said the youth is the future torchbearer of the culture of the country. He also added that music leads to overall personality development of a person making him more sensitive and balanced human being. He said that each child needs to understand that music is far above mere entertainment and the art and culture as the growth of a civilisation also depends upon its culture.
In another session at the Namdhari Dharamshal at Jammu the young Namdhari children who are learning music, presented their recital in Raag Basant in Parhtaal, which was a combination of Rupaktaal, Ektaal and Teentaal featuring Hakam Singh, Harpreet Kaur, Raginni Jaswal and Rupam Jaswal on Dilruba, Chanchal Singh, Jagdev Singh, Sarang Singh, Ganga Singh and Karam Singh on Tabla, Harbans Kaur, Mohinder Kaur, Maan Kaur and Tejpal Kaur on Vocals.
This was followed by a soulful violin recital by Vidushi Kala Ramnath. Suba Sukhdev Singh, Head of the Namdhari Sangat, Jammu and Sardar Karam Singh, President of the Sangat felicitated maestro Abhay Sopori and the performing musicians with bouquets and mementos.
