MUMBAI: The beauty of craft is displayed excellently when two artists get together and the music industry has understood this formula. It does fail in situations, where people involved do not get the right notes, but a recent collaboration just blew our mind. Well, we are talking about a Jubin Nautiyal and Badshah collaboration.
‘MTV Unplugged Season 6’ got the talented two to collaborate on a folk song from Jaunsar region of Uttarakhand Hills and we are glad they did so. The musical piece truly turned out to be a masterpiece.
Talking about the making of the song Nautiyal said, “The song took only 20-30 minutes to structure and it all went so smooth.”

He further added, “The director of ‘MTV Unplugged S6’, Jaggi wanted me to do a show with Badshah. His idea was to come up with a piece out of the box. That is when I proposed him a folk song from my native. When the song was first recorded, Jaggi was sure it would turn out to be a hit.”
The song is in Jaunsari language beautifully written by Khajan Dutt Sharma who is not only a renowned folk song lyricist but also Nautiyal’s dad’s best friend. “O Saathi is one of those songs which I often prefer when asked to sing a song from my native. The song was written a long time ago. I have been singing it since childhood,” stated Nautiyal.
The whole team with Nautiyal tried to translate the song in Hindi but, as they failed to get the desired results, they kept the song in its original language, and added Hindi rap for the audience to get the gist of the song.
Explaining the meaning of his song Nautiyal said, “The song is about a lover crying for his lost love. In spite of not understanding the language, the people can still relate to the song and understand the emotions well. “Music needs no language to connect with the audience. All you need are emotions,” said Nautiyal.
The ‘Kaabil Hoon’ hitmaker is learning songs is all languages be it Indian or International. “I am a musician and I travel with music. Folk songs are something I really like to learn. I have been to Banaras and learned a lot of Banaras folk music but no matter what, I love my roots,” said ‘The Humma Song’ singer.
