MUMBAI: BLACKPINK’s Jennie is riding the wave of success from her debut solo album, Ruby, but her recent performances on The Ruby Experience tour have sparked mixed reactions. After kicking off the tour in Los Angeles on March 6, clips from the show surfaced online, drawing criticism for her lack of energy and offbeat lip-syncing.
A Reddit user shared a video from her performance, where many felt her background dancers outshined her. Comments ranged from praise for the dancers to disappointment in Jennie’s stage presence. One user remarked, “The backup dancer in white nailed that,” while another added, “She looks like she’s filming a TikTok.”
Jennie also faced backlash for her lip-syncing, with some questioning whether she was singing at all. One comment read, “This is the worst lip-syncing I’ve ever seen,” while another joked, “Does she know the words to the song?”

The controversy follows previous criticism Jennie faced after releasing a teaser for her new song Like Jennie. Some Indian listeners claimed it resembled the theme song from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, composed by Pritam. Following her Los Angeles show, Jennie performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York on March 10. Her solo tour will conclude with a final concert at Inspire Arena in Incheon, Seoul, on March 15.
