MUMBAI: The seventh track of the Jammin’ initiative featuring noted composer duo Salim-Sulaiman, emerging playback singer Siddharth Basrur (of Goddess Gagged) and rap trio Mumbai’s Finest turns up to be the grandest effort so far. Shot in the commercial and touristy locations of Dubai, the song titled ‘Jeene ka Shauq’ was released on the duo composer’s YouTube channel last night.
With Basrur and Salim Merchant on the vocals, the song title supplies the entire essence of the song. That is, the new collaboration single speaks about how the willingness to live and evolve overshadows the fear of death or failure. Written by lyricist Manoj Muntashir (who earlier contributed for Ek Villain, PK, Baby, Wazir), the song progresses into a strong plea to not only live and evolve but fulfill the dreams regardless of what the world thinks of it. The video (directed by Shakti Hasija of ‘Shukran Allah’ fame) justifies the lyrics of the song as the duo, Basrur and the rappers can be seen ‘living the dream’ through adventurous activities (skydiving) and simply having the time of their lives.

On the sonic front, with gentle touches of dubstep throughout the three-and-a-half-minute-long track accompanied by Mumbai Finest’s storming rap portions (not surprising, to say the least) provides a nice ‘international’ vibe to it. Having said that, experimenting with sounds have, lately, become the duo composers’ forte (their last collaboration with Jonita Gandhi is the latest example). Jammin’s effort to create a musical environment that involves the stars of digital and mainstream space has received overwhelming responses in the form of YouTube views and digital traction.
The initiative will conclude with a grand concert at NSCI Dome Stadium next month.
