MUMBAI: British singer-songwriter James Blunt who rose to fame with his single ‘You’re Beautiful’, has planned to retire from the music industry to enjoy his well earned success.
In 2004, Blunt debut in the music industry with ‘Back to Bedlam’, which sold 11 million copies. The album topped the charts in 16 territories worldwide and was certified double platinum in US. In Britain the album was certified 10× platinum and sold over three million copies, entering the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest selling album in one year. His most recent album, ‘Some Kind Of Trouble’ ranked at fourth spot in 2010 and attained gold status in UK.
He told an agency, “I just want to take some time out for myself. I haven’t got any plans to do more songwriting. I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I’ve spent a lot of time in Ibiza.”
The singer has sold 18?million albums worldwide including his debut album ‘Back to Bedlam’ which sold six million copies. He has also been playing to packed audiences during a year-long world tour where his final performance in Britain was a concert at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in February, a gig which was attended by his entire family.
Being a former army officer, Blunt repertoire can be best described as a mix of acoustic-tinged pop, rock and folk. In his eight year long career, the singer has been the recipient of two Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards and two Ivor Novello Awards.
