MUMBAI: Music Maestro Jagjit Singh become the first Ghazal singer in the world to perform with 30 musicians before hundreds of specially invited guests in a captivating 1- hour concert held in Mumbai on Tuesday, to announce the launch of first-of-its-kind website www.ghazalsymphony.com.
Himanshu Mehta, MD, and Pradeep Garodia, CEO of Odyssey Corporation Limited inaugurated the website in the presence of luminaries like Gulzar and others. Odyssey also announced that it has planned 30 shows with Jagjit Singh, with the first to be held in Ahmedabad on December 17 The company intends to take the ghazal symphony by Jagjit Singh concept across the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.
At the ghazal symphony concert in a suburba city hotel, Jagjit Singh, accompanied by 30 renowned musicians led by symphony arranger Deepak Pandit, performed timeless classics such as Ahista Ahista, Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho, and Hosh Walon Ko Khabar, among others. The ghazal ensemble featured master musicians from various Indian classical traditions performing on various Indian musical instruments.
Jagjit Singh said, For ghazal fans and music lovers, the launch of www.ghazalsymphony.com is the greatest treat ever presented by any Company! In my 70th year, I have the rare distinction of becoming the world’s first artiste to perform with an entourage of 30 musicians. I shall celebrate Year 2011 with 70 live shows, and Odyssey has already planned more than 30 of them….
