MUMBAI: Mumbai city is soon becoming a melting pot of multiple forms of music and presenting some of the most amazing bands across the world. An Isareli electronic experimental/punk band MALOX is set to perform at The Quarter on 3 October. The band comprises of three members -Assaf, Eyal Talmudi and Roy Chen.
“The band is a mixture of three musicians, who explore the present,” says the Saxophone player, Eyal Talmudi.
MALOX’s music derives from around the world with various local interpretations; direct and aggressive, befitting to three musicians who operate on the stitch of old-new, premeditated -improvised and beautiful – ugly.

Their music, in their own words, is a mixture, “For us, it’s the unique fusion between folklore – jazz – punk that answers our passion to expand in all of these areas at the same time, deeper into the roots and higher in the energy to perform them in a fresh attitude,” he further adds.
Their debut album titled One Day combines Punk style presentation with the challenging melodies, rhythms and styles. The album provides fascinating twists and creating new bounced-troublesome sounds. The second album, Polka for Punks, features 10 tracks with more of a club-punk attitude. In this version of MALOX, the music expends to outer space and deals with larger verity of original tunes scented with eclectic folk.
Talmudi redefines saxophone playing. His instrument is as loud and cracked as a distorted guitar, hectic and wild like a predator, and sometimes melodic and romantic like a ‘Gondolier’. On the drums, Roy Chen brings a powerful bit and a slashing rhythm in a unique mixture of Punk and Free Style.
The band is extremely intrigued by India and Indian music too, “We do, of course hear Indian Music. it’s a BIG culture with amazing stuff. The size of the scene and even more, the passion Indians share for music in all aspects is a strong inspiration for us.”
This is the band’s first performance in India. On this, he exclaims, “As it’s our first time in India we are very excited and all our friend that played here before warmly recommended so, we are looking for lots of fun!”
Watching them closely on stage, one can experience an electrifying feeling of vitality and happiness. “Malox show is somewhat of a shamanic healing session. If u let it take you, it will take you far,” says Talmudi.
