MUMBAI: Gearing up to commence its first junior edition this week, Indian Idol has set the stage for kids aged between 5-15 to showcase their talent on the singing reality show. The show will premiere on 1 June at 8:30pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
Launching the show in a glitzy affair, the judges – popular composers Vishal-Shekhar and singer Shreya Ghoshal enthralled the audience with a performance on their popular songs.
Hosts of the show Karan Wahi and Mandira Bedi presented the show to the audience, where the judges spoke about their journey across the country to select the 10 best voices out of lakhs. After a tough round of auditions, 10 finalists have been selected which represent every zone in India.
Speaking about the show, Multi Screen Media COO NP Singh said, “Sony has been known to innovate and experiment in terms of content. We are constantly working towards creating new content to engage with our audiences. Indian Idol Junior is a reinvented format, and is an extension of the international format held in countries like Brazil and Puer to Rico. This season will create a new benchmark in singing reality shows.”
Living up to its theme of ‘Gaano ka Wahi Jaadu, Ab Bachon Ki Aawaaz Mein’, a special ‘Media Idol Junior’ competition was held for children related to the media professionals. After selecting the top three from an audition held earlier, the finalists performed in front of the judges and audiences. Twins Kashish and Mehvish Khan were declared as the winners for their rendition of the English track ‘These Wings Were Meant to Fly’.
The junior idols will recreate a similar aura in their distinct style on the show, which will be aired every weekend. Aiming to celebrate the young singing talent in the show, special care was taken to ensure that the promotions and marketing was centered on the quality of the kids.
Sony TV once again partnered with leading production house Fremantle Media, who are the license holders to the format of Indian Idol. While the content team ensured that the true essence of music stays alive by not allowing any renditions of item numbers, the marketing team designed the promos around the kids which earned them a positive response.
Fremantle Media India content head Anupama Mandloi said, “Indian Idol has built a lot of credibility with the brand. It has been successfully produced in Brazil and Puerto Rico and it is our endeavour to sustain the legacy of success. Indian Idol Junior has been thoroughly enjoyable to produce and we hope to bring the innocence and talent of the participants to every home and make it the preferred destination.”
While the team refused to divulge any details related to the show’s format and content, Mandloi did let slip that the show might even witness the anchors Mandira Bedi and Karan Wahi rendering some tracks.
