MUMBAI: The Indi-Pop king Daler Mehndi will be featured on 7th september on the music chat show ‘Sureeli Baat’ on Aaj Tak.
Sureeli Baat which has featured singers and musicians from the music fraternity across the country brings the Indi-Pop King from Punjab, Daler Mehndi is the upcoming episode. Mehndi will share his musical journey and the unknown secrets of his life on this chat show with Ms Mala Sekhri.
Daler Mehndi is the pioneer of Indi-Pop music. He is a prolific Singer, Musician, Songwriter, Composer, performer, an Entertainer par excellence who continues to defy the standards & re-invent his music. Mehndi, who inherited a legacy of music from his family, is endowed with versatile power pitched vocals and a dynamic spirit.
Emerging in the mid-90s, Mehndi became the most popular pop sensation with his debut ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra’. The spectacular album went double platinum and created a new genre that came to be labeled as Indipop. Regarded for the Intellectual depth of his work, the classically trained singer has given the music world a new genre that is called ‘Rabbabi’, from ghazals, to thumri, to pop, to sufi, from bhangra to fusing it with rock. A prolific song writer, the Bhangra sensation uses words that if given music can make people dance and without music can make people sit up and take notice.
With titles like ‘The Turbaned Tornado’, the ‘Sultan of Swing’ conferred on Mehndi by the International press, he started getting numerous offers from Bollywood and he gave the Indian Film Industry with an anthem ‘Na Na Na Re’ for the film Mrityudata. He was featured on the Big Screen with Mr Amitabh Bachchan. It was also the year when India celebrated its 50 years of Independence, & with 50-50 Phatte Chak Deyange, he paid his tribute to the country by rendering a truly befitting track.
When he transcended into Sufi Music with his album ‘Bismillah’, he became the only Indian Artist to be invited by the President of Pakistan as the State Guest. With ‘Rang De Basanti’, Mehndi created a patriotic cult song for the country.
