MUMBAI: Indeep Bakshi may be a new musician on the block, but his music is spreading faster than a forest fire, especially after his mega hit- ‘Saturday Saturday’ from Dharma Productions’ ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’. Since its release in 2013, there has been no looking back for the artist, who revealed that he has been getting music offers from big labels. This change, he says, has made him consider getting into the music business more seriously.
The singer/songwriter/composer recently released a single with Zee Music titled ‘Booty Shake’, for which Bakshi got quite a bit of attention.

Talking about ‘Booty Shake’ the Bakshi said, “We launched trap plus house music with this single. ‘Saturday Saturday’ was first Hindi house music and this is my first Hindi trap music.”
Bakshi, who earlier looked at music as his passion, said that his outlook towards the art has changed. He made it his profession after ‘Saturday Saturday’ turned out to be a hit. This adds a lot of pressure on the 25-year-old as he believes that his fans’ expectations have shot up as well. He is now expected to deliver hit after hit, and he cannot let his fans down.
When asked if there is a formula to creating a hit, the ‘36 Aayegi 36 Jayegi’ singer stated, “Not really, but I make music that I would like to hear. Apart from that I also play these songs at lounges without a shout out, to see the crowd’s reaction. I know a lot of DJs in Delhi, so the task gets easier. But, the response is not always positive, though it helps to know what will work.”
However, once Bakshi has finalised on the music, no one is allowed to make any changes. The reason for this, he revealed, was that he believes in his music, which is why he does not change it for anyone’s whims and fancies. In fact, the musician was apparently asked by Dharma Productions to rework ‘Saturday Saturday’ to be accepted by the Indian masses. However, he chose to go with his original music.
Narrating another similar incident Bakshi said, “While I was working on my album ‘Billionaire’, there were a lot of producers who asked me to make songs for different regions, but I chose not to. That kind of concept would have not been a natural one for me. ‘Saturday Saturday’ has a lot of pronunciations errors, but I let it go because that is how I speak. It is a Delhi-Punjabi track. Music companies told me that the music would not work but I stayed adamant. I do not think I need to explain the rest.”
Although the young singer likes making up-tempo songs with slang, his personal favourite is slow R&B music. “Post ‘Booty Shake’ and ‘Tina And Lolo’ (starring Sunny Leone), I will only produce R&B songs. I already have two songs in the pipeline- ‘Baby Go Wild’ featuring Neha Kakkar, and ‘2 AM’, the latter of which is really close to me. It took me two years to produce it as it is really close to my heart,” he added.
Like any artist, Bakshi is extremely possessive about his work. This is probably why he wrote a mail to Sony Music when they gave Toshi-Sharib the credit for ‘Saturday Saturday’. “It was surprising to see their name in the credit when the songs rights belonged to me. I believe that one needs to speak up for their rights. In fact, recently a big banner approached me for my music and asked me to let a well known composer use his name in place of mine. I could not help but decline the offer,” he said humbly.
