MUMBAI: Rapper Ikka Singh, who rose to fame with the track ‘In Da Club’ from the film ‘Tamanchey’, has recently recorded for a few Bollywood projects. While, he has been approached by many people, Singh stated that he wishes to concentrate more on independent music. He also worked with Yo Yo Honey Singh during the initial phase of his career and has learnt a lot from the ‘Blue Eyes’ singer.
“Raftaar and I had recorded some music and Honey bhai heard it somewhere. He called us and we went to him. This was when he told us that we can make money out of the music we make. One of the most important things he told me was to be original,” Singh said.
According to him, labels do not give rappers too much importance and people in the industry do not always offer the right kind of advice. Which is why, Singh claims, a rapper gets exploited at the end of the day. While he adores Eminem as an artiste, Singh said he is here to narrate his own story, and is hopeful that Bollywood will offer rappers more space in the industry.

Fortunately, Singh’s break in Bollywood came rather easily. His track from ‘Tamanchey’ happened after producer- Suryaveer Singh Bhullar, heard his music on iTunes and contacted Universal Music, so that he could be approached for the song.
Of late, rappers are being called out for using foul language in their songs, to which Singh opines, “We are the reflection of the youth. We write only and only what youngsters talk. Take an example of Honey bhai. Who actually heard his songs on Bhagat Singh and other devotional tacks? Nobody gave a damn. The problem is the mentality of the people.”
Singh also revealed that he does not have a problem writing songs about alcohol. “I am not the one who made alcohol. The makers should have been careful. It is primitive to blame Honey bhai or anyone else as we are artistes and we will make music. I think we should be given all the creative freedom to do so,” he elucidated.
His latest release is the track ‘Paniwala Dance’ for the film ‘Kuch Kuch Locha Hai’, which he has composed with Intense and Arko. The peppy track has so far crossed three million views on YouTube.
