Idea Big Bangla Music Awards winners announced

MUMBAI: Many musical legends from Bengal have carved their distinct identity in the field of music. Reliance Broadcast Network’s radio arm Big FM and Idea Cellular, the pan India mobile operator in association with Marshal presented Idea Big Bangla Music Awards 2010 to acknowledge and honour the torchbearers 

Bangla Music offers various flavors in the form of Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti, Lokgeeti, Bangla Rock, Bangla film music and others 

The awards acknowledged the outstanding work done in the field of Bangla music in the year 2009 in various categories cutting across film and non-film genres.

The winners in the five popular choice categories were Goutam Sushmit (Lyricist of the Year), Kaya (Rock/Pop Song of the Year), Shreya Ghoshal (Singer of the Year – Female), Abhijeet (Singer of the Year – Male) and Shantanu Moitra (Song of the Year).

The Jury Awards went to Nilanjana Sarkar (Debutant of the Year), Kaya and Abhijit Basu (Title Score of the Year) and Arnab (Rabindra Sangeet Album of the Year).

In Special Awards Category, singing legend Dwijen Mukhopadhyay was felicitated with the Idea Big Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution towards Bangla Music.

New age composer Jeet Ganguly got the award for the most significant contribution to Bangla film music while young, upcoming singer Anwesha won Most Promising Young Artiste Award.

The evening was divided into four phases namely Sur’er Aakashey, Sur’er Ei Jhorna, Onyo Gaan’er Bhorey and Dhak’er Taaley and witnessed performances by Usha Uthup, Rupankar, Antara Choudhury, Raghab, Emon and a few others.

The audience comprised notable personalities from the music and entertainment industry like Nirmala Mishra, Debojyoti Mishra, Arun Bhaduri, Chiranjeet, Nandan Bagchi, Sreelekha Mitra and Agnimitra.

The award function was held on 13 August at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata.
