MUMBAI: Indo-Canadian singer-songwriter, Raghav Mathur, recently released a brand new track- ‘Until the Sun Goes Up’ – which features Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, and American rapper Nelly. The track is part of International Light Year, which the United Nations has declared 2015 as. The music video depicts the happiness in small rural township of Shungubweni, Tanzania, after receiving solar light; a noble cause that Mathur contributed to by distributing 300 solar lights to children, along with SolarAid.org.
Talking about the ‘Until the Sun Goes Up’ Mathur said, “The song lends itself to happiness and joy. I just wanted to show the joy a little light can bring. I had a show in Tanzania when I decided to help the cause. The lack of solar energy in Africa and Asia is an issue, which is why I decided to take some action, and I am not going to stop working on this. I do hope we can end the use of kerosene in India by 2020.”
Mathur revealed that the idea for the track came after his 2010 track ‘Fire’ which was a hit in Canada. “I wanted something that sounded like a world song, with elements of my Indian and Canadian backgrounds.”

On roping in Nelly and junior Bachchan the singer said, “The song has this pop/country/ Bollywood feel. I felt that Nelly invented the whole pop/ hip hop/ country vibe, and I have known Abhishek for a while now, and he is so musical and talented. I always knew he could jump in on a record and sound authentically cool, and he nailed it.”
While Mathur would like to work with the Bollywood actor again in future, he also wants to be his playback voice. “So many actors have playback voices; I would love to be his. He is by far, the nicest and most down to earth celebrity I have ever met or collaborated with. Apart from that, I love Bollywood music; it is what gave me my voice. I want to innovate it and that is what excites me.”
The ‘Angle Eyes’ hitmaker will be working on more Bollywood projects next year. “I want to bring the next sound there,” he said. In addition to that, he is busy working with musical maestro AR Rahman on some current projects. Divulging a bit more on his next project Mathur stated, “Well, this is a pretty consuming project, but the next single is almost a complete throwback to ‘Storyteller’ – my first album. This one will be that kind of sound.”
